Re-jigging of the sitting room continues, and I have got the woodburner re-lit. The kettle was acquired (from the tip) a while back, last summer I think, with a view to stove top tea-making. So it was brought out, polished up and set to work - boiled nice and fast, and am now able to use my pot holder I made for it too. Nice when things come together :)

I like the hot plate on your wood stove, mine is in an alcove so I didn't think of it, but if I ever manage to downsize to a cottage and get a different stove, I'll get one with a hotplate - lover froogs
I thought it would be useul to have just in case anything (God forbid!) happened to my beloved Rayburn, at least I would have that for hot water and a bit of cooking. It's why I chose that stove too, so it juts out into the room and you can use the kettle safely. It's a bit of fun too......
