The failure that was Rio

George Monbiot's article in the Guardian says it all for me:

Sad , sad times we live in. These are my responses, via Facebook to postings:

''The governments of the world may have given up but *I* haven't; how they can sleep at night beggars belief. There is so much more I can do, and I will be doing it to the best of my abilities to make my little corner of the world a safe and lovely place for all those who touch it; while still doing anything I can to reach further afield. Hugely saddening and frightening, but I won't be defeated by people who DO NOT CARE. x''

''World governments have FAILED again, because like in so many areas, they fail to listen to and completely ignore those of us who know how to address the problems- WE are the ones living in the real world, we are the ones who are aware of what is going on and what has gone on, and we are the ones with the knowledge and unified power to do something about the things we can. If they istened to US, theordinary caring people on this planet and took time to let us get properly involved, I'm fairly sure the situation would be a whole lot different. In the meantime I'm keeping on keeping on like he suggests in his article. Under present circumstances, we may not be able to change things on a massive global scale, but we can sustain and improve our immediate surroundings for the benefit of all who touch it. Very, very sad, and that article says it all in an eloquent nutshell. x''
