Please watch this
I now I'm always exhorting you to watch this and that, but this one really is a very important and special film; yes, it's over an hour long, but worth every second of watching. Take time to watch this film - watch, listen, take it in and act, then share. One of the most moving and profoundly affecting things I have seen in a long, long time . It has deeply affected me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpVEH-Bpdes&feature=share Watch the film and come back and share your thoughts if you like :) |

The only muffin you'll ever need...................
For me, the ultimate muffin is a blueberry one - squishy and juiceful, soft and not sweet. The first muffin I ever had was a blueberry muffin in Bath, over 20 years ago, neer forgotten it.Here is the ultimate bluberry muffin recipe. Try it, youwon;t be disappointed. They must be eaten fresh, but tht won't be a problem. 10 oz SR flour 3oz granulated sugar 2 eggs 8 fl oz milk 4 oz butter large handful of fresh or frozen blueberries, make sure there's plenty proper large muffin cases and tin (12) Put the cases in the tin ready, sieve flour into bowl and stir in sugar. Melt the butter in the milk in a pan, then pour on to the eggs and beat well. Add blueberries to flour and sugar, stir well, then add in the liquid. Here's the important bit - stir together to a lumpy looking batter - don't beat it like a sponge cake, you need a good lumpy but loose mixture. Divide between cases and straight inot a hot oven for 20 - 25 minutes or so until golden brown and well risen. Cool on wire rack. |
Quote for a downbeat Wednesday
So much bad stuff going on all around me................. "...our country is not being destroyed by bad politics, it is being destroyed by a bad way of life. Bad politics is merely another result." -- Wendell Berry (http://brtom.typepad.com/ |

The failure that was Rio
George Monbiot's article in the Guardian says it all for me: http://apps.facebook.com/theguardian/commentisfree/2012/jun/25/rio-governments-will-not-save-planet Sad , sad times we live in. These are my responses, via Facebook to postings: ''The governments of the world may have given up but *I* haven't; how they can sleep at night beggars belief. There is so much more I can do, and I will be doing it to the best of my abilities to make my little corner of the world a safe and lovely place for all those who touch it; while still doing anything I can to reach further afield. Hugely saddening and frightening, but I won't be defeated by people who DO NOT CARE. x'' ''World governments have FAILED again, because like in so many areas, they fail to listen to and completely ignore those of us who know how to address the problems- WE are the ones living in the real world, we are the ones who are aware of what is going on and what has gone on, and we are the ones with the knowledge and unified power to do something about the things we can. If they istened to US, theordinary caring people on this planet and took time to let us get properly involved, I'm fairly sure the situation would be a whole lot different. In the meantime I'm keeping on keeping on like he suggests in his article. Under present circumstances, we may not be able to change things on a massive global scale, but we can sustain and improve our immediate surroundings for the benefit of all who touch it. Very, very sad, and that article says it all in an eloquent nutshell. x'' |
