Fingerless gloves

Bean wears these all the time, and I remember making them whilst I was at school, called "miser mittens" back then. She came back form college in the first week with a request for three pairs for some of her fellow students. I've got them done now, ready to go in with her tomorrow. They're a good, quick, easy project, and you can put various odds and ends to good use.
Double knitting wool (worsted weight in USA), on 4mm needles/size 8 UK/size 6 US. Cast on 42 stitches and work required length in K2 P2 ribbing - about 7"/17cm. Easy to make longer if required, just keep working rib until length required is reached. Cast off in rib. Fold in half and sew up seam, leaving enough room for the thumb to go through. Weave in ends. Look cool (so I'm told......... ;0)
Might have to do myself a pair now.......

Hi Jitterbug; sew up about 1 1/2 " of the seam, then finish off the yarn securely.Leave a gap of about 2", then sew the rest of the seam to the end of the knitting - you'll end up with a tube with a thumb opening near the top. Hope this helps; if not, give another shout!

Lovely...they remind me of standing round the bonfire on Guy Fawkes night as a child wearing fingerless gloves trying to eat a baked potato out of the fire! BW Goosey

Hi,
Your gloves looked so fab that as a person with permanently cold hands I was inspired to rush out and get some lovely wool and then dig out my knitting needles and have a go. DD1 asked what the knitting sticks were for...

They look great and warm! Good idea to knit them flat and leave a hole for the thumb when sewing. I usually knit them in the round and add a short thump as I need some warmth for that first joint, too. Make some for you, you`ll like wearing them!
