Where do I begin to say how much I understand this. OK, with me it was both parents, and if I wanted to, I could cite the sudden death of my sister as mitigating circumstances, but the constant implying that I was a disappointment, I was not the child they had wanted, that they were wasting their money raising me (and that I should hand over my wages to repay them) still hurt.

As does my mother's frequent reminding me if I'd been a boy, she'd have named me Clive. To this day, I have yet to meet a totally likeable person with that name.
